Step by step

How To Split a PDF Into Parts

Break one document into several — one file per page, chunks of N, or exactly where you say the parts should end.

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drop in a document and every page appears as a thumbnail, with a zoom slider to size them. Files are deleted after 2 hours.

  2. 2

    Choose how to split

Four cards, each showing what you will get in real counts: every page into its own PDF, pick the pages yourself, split every X pages, or every even page. The stats are computed for the document you loaded.

The Split by pages chooser on desktop: four cards — Extract every page into a PDF, Select pages to split, Split every X pages, Split every even page — each showing document counts, above the Continue button
  3. 3

    Mark where the parts end

In “Select pages to split” a clicked page ends the part it belongs to: click page 4 and page 10 and you get 1-4, 5-10, 11 to the end. Cuts can also be typed (“1-10,13,14,100-”). The Filenames panel under the pages lists every part exactly as it will download — live.

The Split by pages workspace on desktop: eight thumbnails where pages 3 and 6 carry the blue cut mark, above the Filenames panel listing three parts — ex-a-3.pdf 1-3, ex-a-6.pdf 4-6, ex-a-8.pdf 7-8 — and the Split PDF by pages button
  4. 4

    Split and download

Press Split PDF by pages and the ready page lists every file — download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP.

  • Four ways in

Every page into its own PDF, pick pages yourself, chunks of N, or every even page.

  • Click where a part ends

A clicked page closes its part: page 4 and page 10 give 1-4, 5-10 and 11 to the end.

  • Chunks of N pages

“Split every X pages” turns 8 pages into 4 documents of 2 — the chooser shows the count first.

  • Or type the cuts

“Split at these pages: 1-10,13,14,100-” marks every boundary for you.

  • Filenames panel

Every part is listed under the pages as it will download — names and ranges, updated live.

  • Private by default

No account, no watermark — and every file is automatically deleted after 2 hours.

Split by pages — frequently asked questions

Will I get one file or several?

One PDF per range you set — like 1-3 and 4-8 — delivered together as a zip, so every part arrives as its own document.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Unlock it first with the password you know — the Unlock tool removes the protection from a copy — then split that copy. The tools never guess or crack passwords.

Do the parts keep their quality?

Yes — pages are copied into the new files, not re-rendered, so text stays sharp and images stay byte-identical to the original.

Is Split by pages free?

Yes — Split by pages is free right here in your browser, with no watermark and no sign-up. Every tool on the site works the same way.

Do I need an account to use Split by pages?

No. Accounts are optional — they keep your credits, API keys and settings together. The tools work signed-out.

What happens to my file?

Every upload is stored under an unguessable id and deleted automatically after 2 hours. Nothing is listed, shared or emailed anywhere.

Can I run Split by pages from the API?

Yes — every tool has a REST endpoint. An API call for this tool costs 5 credits per file; browser use stays free. See the Plans & pricing page for plans and the API page for the endpoint list.
