Terms & Conditions
The short version: use the tools lawfully, only upload files you have the right to use, keep your account and API keys to yourself — and remember this is a free service provided “as is”.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the website and online PDF tools operated under the name Free PDF Editor (the “Service”), a brand of QEPL Technologies, New Town Business District, Rajarhat, Kolkata – 700156, West Bengal, India (“we”, “us”). By using the Service — with or without an account — you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle data, and our API Terms cover programmatic use of the Service.
2. What the Service is
Free PDF Editor provides free, browser-based PDF tools: editing, merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing, form filling, OCR, page management, watermarks, bookmarks and more. You upload a document, the tool processes it on our servers, and you download the result. Files are deleted automatically after 2 hours. The tools themselves need no account; an optional account keeps your credits and settings together and carries your API keys on the Commercial plan. The browser tools are free today — no feature is locked behind a watermark or a download wall. API access is the paid Commercial path: keys come with monthly or yearly plans starting at 10,000 credits a month, and free accounts do not include API keys (see the API section below and the API Terms).
3. Who may use the Service
You may use the Service if you are at least 13 years old and can form a binding agreement with us. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. You must not use the Service if you have been suspended from it, or if doing so would break the laws that apply to you.
4. Your content and your rights
- You keep everything. Your documents remain yours. We claim no ownership over any file you upload or any result you produce.
- You must have the right to use what you upload. By uploading a file you confirm you own it or otherwise have permission to process it, and that doing so does not violate anyone's copyright, privacy or other rights.
- Your responsibility. You are solely responsible for the content of your documents and for how you use the results.
5. Accounts
- Optional for tools, required for the API. The browser tools work anonymously. API keys live inside an account, so API access requires one.
- Give accurate details. Sign up with your own username and a working email address — it receives the 6-digit verification code that activates the account, and it is how we reach you about the account.
- One person, one account. Do not share account access, and do not create accounts to evade limits or suspensions.
- Keep your credentials confidential. The account is your responsibility; anything done through it — including API calls made with its keys — is treated as done by you.
- You can leave at any time. There is no self-serve delete button yet; contact us via pdfedit@freepdfeditor.recollem.me and we will delete your account and everything attached to it.
- We may suspend accounts used for abuse, as described in the Enforcement section below.
6. API keys, credits and the API preview
- The API is in preview. It is live for testing — currently a single endpoint reports your account and key status. More endpoints are on the way, and everything about the preview is described in the API Terms.
- Keys are part of the Commercial plan. Free accounts do not have API keys. Commercial accounts run one key at a time — revoke it to make the next one — and each plan sets how many keys the account can create (up to 5 in total); a revoked key counts as used.
- Credits. Accounts start with 100 welcome credits, and calls spend them per the published costs. Credits are free, have no cash value, are not transferable, and are not refundable — they are a preview of how metering will work.
- Commercial use is the paid path. Commercial API keys are sold as monthly or yearly plans starting at 10,000 credits a month — pick one on the plans page, or contact us via pdfedit@freepdfeditor.recollem.me to apply and arrange the details.
- Simple pricing. Plans are billed by the month or the year — yearly saves up to 20% — and credits roll over between months, so nothing you pay for expires. The price at checkout is the price, and future price changes never reduce credits you already hold.
- If a purchase goes wrong. A double charge, a missing activation or anything else out of order — write to us via pdfedit@freepdfeditor.recollem.me and we will make it right.
7. Acceptable use
To keep the Service fast, fair and legal for everyone, you agree not to:
- upload or process content that is unlawful, infringing, malicious or harmful — including malware, stolen documents or material that violates another person's rights;
- use the Service to forge documents, signatures or identities in any unlawful way, or to circumvent technical protection measures you have no right to bypass;
- probe, scan or attack the Service, attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' files or accounts or our infrastructure, or interfere with its normal operation;
- bypass usage limits or overload the Service — including automated bulk requests beyond the published limits, retry storms, or scraping beyond what the API Terms allow;
- harvest data about other people, send spam, or process other people's documents without a lawful basis;
- resell or rebrand the Service, or present it as your own, without our written permission.
We may suspend or end access — with notice where practical — if use puts the Service, other users or us at risk.
8. Availability and changes
The Service is provided “as is”. The browser tools are free of charge; API access is supplied under the paid Commercial arrangement you agree with us, and free accounts do not include API keys. We work hard to keep every tool online and accurate, but we do not promise the Service will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. Tools may change, be updated, limit their usage, or be retired; we may also introduce paid tiers for additional features in the future, and paid features (if offered) would be governed by the plan you buy at the time. Keep your own copies of anything important.
9. No professional advice
The Service is a document-processing tool. Nothing on the site or in your results constitutes legal, financial, tax or other professional advice, and OCR or conversion output can contain errors — always check important documents before relying on them.
10. Intellectual property of the Service
The Service itself — its name, logo, design, text, and code — belongs to QEPL Technologies and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Nothing in these Terms gives you rights to our branding or code beyond using the Service as intended. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve the Service without obligation to you.
11. Third-party services
The Service can fetch files from Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive at your request. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them. Linking a cloud drive does not give us ongoing access to it — we receive only the file you choose, at the moment you choose it.
12. Your files, retention and privacy
Uploaded files and their results are deleted automatically after 2 hours, are stored under unguessable identifiers, and are never browsed or listed. The Privacy Policy describes the full data story — files, accounts, cookies, logs and your rights — and forms part of these Terms.
13. Enforcement and suspension
We do not monitor the content of your documents. We do keep an eye on the health of the Service: automated limits protect it, and if we detect abuse — attacks, limit evasion, unlawful content, harm to other users — we may throttle, suspend or close the account involved, with notice where practical. Where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to stop serious harm, we may act immediately.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. You use the tools at your own risk and are responsible for keeping your own copies of important files.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, QEPL Technologies and Free PDF Editor are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or ₹1,000 (approx. USD 12) — whichever is greater. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
16. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify QEPL Technologies against claims, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms — in particular, claims that your uploaded content infringes someone else's rights.
17. Copyright complaints
We respect copyright. Because uploaded files are deleted within 2 hours, the best action against infringing use is usually immediate: contact us via pdfedit@freepdfeditor.recollem.me with the details of the material and the rights concerned, and we will act promptly — removing the material where appropriate and, for accounts, suspending repeat infringers.
18. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time, and you can end your account by contacting us. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these Terms or if we are required to by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — content rights, warranties, liability, indemnity and governing law — survive it.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time; the date at the top of this page always shows the current version. Material changes are highlighted on the site, and continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
20. Governing law, disputes and miscellaneous
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any mandatory consumer protections where you live, disputes arising from the Service or these Terms are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts with competence over West Bengal, India. If a provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the API Terms, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
